Step 1 - Getting Registered

In order to be able to bid and to be offered a Council or Housing Association property, you first need to register by completing an application form.  This can be done online.  Anyone over 16 can apply unless they are ineligible due to certain restrictions.  For further details go to Who Can Use the Service.

When you are accepted onto the housing register we will write to tell you:

  • Your application reference number
  • The Housing Need Band your application has been placed in and your application date.

For more information on the Housing Needs Bands click on Prioritising Applications

You must tell us if there are any changes in your circumstances so that we can reassess your application and if necessary make changes to your band and priority date.  Your circumstances will be checked at the time of receiving an offer.  If you have not told us about changes in your circumstances your application may be suspended or your rehousing may be delayed.

Property Size

You will only be able to bid for properties that are suitable for the size of your family.  The rules may be different for rented and shared ownership properties.  For a guide on the size and type of properties you will normally be able to apply for please click on eligibility table.

Please note that unborn babies will qualify as a child once the mother in more than 6 months' pregnant.
